Puppy Love
Posted On 2008-08-25 , 8:03 PM
Last time I wrote about kittens. This time let's give some recognition to man's best friend. I'm talking about the Puppy Love Series. Hallmark artist Anita Rogers modeled all of the Puppies in this series after the American Kennel Clubs top 20 most popular breeds.

This series was started in 1991 with a roly poly spaniel happily chewing on a candy cane. It is still going strong today. Here are just a few samples of this wonderful series. |

The 1994 ornament pictured at the right end was modeled on Anita Roger's sister's dog. She spent an afternoon photographing the dog until she got just the right pose. |

So here's to Man's Best Friend and a wonderful Hallmark ornament series. |

Mischievous Kittens

What is your favorite Hallmark Series Ornament?
I will start this blog off with my favorite Hallmark ornament series. It
would have to be the Mischievous Kittens series. Anyone who owns
a cat know the trouble these lovable creatures get into. My cat is
named Merlin. He loves to bring me special gifts: bugs, birds, bunnies,
snakes, squirrels and once he brought home a possum. That was
an interesting day. Kittens are curious so they are often finding
themselves getting into trouble.
Hallmark Keepsake artist Nina Aube first introduced the idea for
this series in 1997. The name she proposed for the series was
Kitty Capers. The series is based on kittens giving into temptation
and getting into trouble. In 1999, the series was introduced with
the first ornament showing a black and white kitten sticking his paw
into a fish bowl. Cat lovers were quickly won over by this series.
The 2001 ornament (also pictured) shows a kitten with a hamster ball.
This is one of the artist's favorite ornaments.
Some of the ornaments show the kittens tormenting smaller animals,
like they do. Others show them getting into trouble other ways. I
especially love the kitten in the Christmas tree. I have a 9 foot
Christmas tree and often find my cat trying to climb it. Needless
to say, I don't have any ornaments on the bottom of my tree :-)
The Mischievous Kittens series shows the cats getting into all
kinds of trouble. It is a terrific series for Hallmark ornament
collectors and cat lovers to collect and cherish.
Let me know what your favorite Hallmark series is.
